Rumors
by: David Charles WERBECK - Seattle

Dear People
I know Ignacio personally and have been buying guitars from since 1980.
Esperanza use to say that the 2A were made by him.
Possibly one or two...however he suigned those and I know
I bought one signed...and sold it.
After Ignacio the time it took to make a 2A was app. the same as a 1A... and thus
he farmed it off to another workshop.
Ignacio..... only signed guitars he opersonally hand made by himself !
Only !
Ignacio did make a few classical Flamenco guitars...and signed them.
He sold somme...NOT SIGNED by him
and that is/was always the situation with Ignacio.
If it is ..... NOT ....signed
Ignacio did not make it...no exceptions.
The flamencos thgat had the big body of a classical... he dis make app 3 or five.... all signed.
I bought one.
New flamenco players like the big bodied ones
becaus enow they play in concert halls and need the sound projections.
Igacio is now retired and lives with his wife in village app. 1 hour from Madrid.
His son is reachable...
Both fine people
and I try to see them when I am in madrid.
Once in a while Ignacio comes to Madrid
works in a garage studio with app three other guitar makers.

All fine people.

Sincerely ----- David

Concierto 2a Especial
by: Tony Morison

I purchased a 'Concierto 2a Especial' from Ignacio Rozas in his workshop at Calle Mayor in 2000...I am now a luthier - partly due to being inspired by the visit to Ignacio's workshop...this is a beautiful guitar...Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood...Ignacio told me, thru his shop assistant, that the 1a and 2a Especial were made by him alone - I have no reason to doubt him, he was a very lovely person....and the guitar has a beautiful voice and is treasured by me.

Rozas Ripoff?
by: R. Kiel

I have a 1994 2A which I bought from Rozas himself. It is not signed. When I asked him why not, he said he never signed 2A's. He did not say, however, that the guitar was not entirely made by him.

Rozas 2a & Rozas Flamenco
by: Anonymous

Hi,

I need some advice here please:

1. I have a Ignacio M Rozas 2a which is 1999 and constructed from Cedar and Brazilian Rosewood. I am a little puzzled by the previous comments that 2a's were made from Indian Rosewood, as mine is very clearly Brazilian. The guitar is an absolute beauty! I am trying to discover some history and price as I am considering letting it go?

2. I have a circa late 1980's Ignacio M Rozas Flamenco which is the most amazing flamenco guitar I have had the pleasure of seeing an playing. Beautiful Cyrus and Spruce and very very light in weight. The label has no date or signature or model number? I have taken it to a well known luthier who states that it is a very well constructed high spec flamenco. A coouple of professionally repaired sound board splits (humidity I think) but other than this she plays like a dream. Any history on I M's Flamenco's? Cost?

Thanks for your help. If anybody is interested then let me know

Tony

Rozas's initials in Ramirez guitars
by: David

A small correction. Ignacio M. Rozas put the initials IM in the guitars he built for the Ramirez workshop (not IR as mentioned in a comment above. By the way, I own a Rozas 2008 1a Especial custom ordered "Fleta" design (one of only a half-dozen or so he built) and the instrument is magnificent: exquisitely responsive with bell-like trebles and penetrating base notes.

Ignacio Rozas nº2 ...1991...
by: Anonymous

I apologize for all this...

My number 2 was lent to a friend as I have been dedicated these last few years to a seven string brazilian made guitar...

When I saw these adds I wrote in an impulse and relied on good memories of Ignacio and Esperanza, but I called my friend just to check it out and...

The truth is that the guitar is NOT signed. Never ocurred to me that the guitar was NOT made entirely by Ignacio, that I visited some other times, and I always found working alone in the back of the Calle Mayor shop... at least until 2000...

To be honest I feel "cheated" fiding out this way......Ignacio was always very nice and helpful, as well as Esperanza... but I'm shure they never mentioned that the guitar was not made by Ignacio....

I remember clearly comparing the two guitas and finding them both better than any other I've tried in Madrid... and, anyway, at 23 y-old, the number 2 was already a dream guitar and a financial effort...

Well, it's still a nice guitar...

My apologies to you all...

Not the same

The number IIA....does not sound the same as a Number IA Rozas.

If they did...would Ignacio have spent the extra money for Brazillian Rosewood that was app. 60 years old...(drying time)?

Both model do ... "sound" ...in the Rozas sound...but the IA is made of "expensive" Brazilian rpsewood...and German Cedar or German Spruce.

The IIA was made of...........INDIAN Rosewood...and less expensive Cedars.

I know...because I asked him.

He is in my estimation...a person whose guitars (ClassicaliA range as some of the best in the world.

The majority of his guitars ...we acquiured by people who played in orchestra...througout the world.
I know this because his "partner in business" Esperanza...showed me he sales' book...
She noted everyone of the sales of Ignacio's guitar made and sold.

She also did the final French polish on all his guitars.

She and Ignacio started the shop (on Calle Major) after leaving Contreras....who had not paid them for over six months.
Ignacio for many years...made all of Contreras's guitar...the top models...that is.

Ignacio also worked with Ramirez...and put a small IR initials on the Ramirez labels.

This can lal be verified by Ignacio.
He lives outside...Madrid...but comes in once in a while to help his fellow guitar makers in madrid at the old garage workshop.

Only if he crafted them himself !
by: Anonymous

I knew Igancio and his son since the 1980's...late 70's.

Ignacio only signed what he crafteed 100% by himslef.
If it is signed...then he crafted it.
Later...he realized...that It took him app. the same amount of time...to craft a 1A as a IIA.
Thus he delegated IIA's to another person...and also used less expensive woods as he had before.
Thus he then ...never signed those IIa"s.
THis I know because I asked him.

Also he only crafted app. 5 flamenco guitars...and signed them.
I know as I had bought one.
Last year I saw him again...(he came to Madrid and a workshop in a garage...(large garage) that he had shared for a while after leaving his shop on Calle Major. I asked him how many Flamenco guitars he crafted. He stated app. 5.
They are large like his !A classical...and soung half way between...a classical and a flamenco.
Beautifully crafted. He signed them.
That comes from Ignacio himself.

There are very few...very few IIA's signed.
I personally only know of one....
If they are signed I would question any IIA.
Ignacio stated to me that...after the 80's he never made any at all...and that all the others...
(IIA's) were never completely made by him.
Only the one he sold to me...

It has been sold to Mark Tossman near Seattle as also a damaged 1AQ.
Contact him if you wnat a nice IIa or iA...that has been repaired.

ignacio rozas number 2 guitar
by: Gabriel Godoi

hi... I just wonder why people say that ignacio rozas just made one number 2 guitar with his signature. I´ve been with ignacio a few times in early 90's and I have a number 2 guitar with his signature made in 1991. I´m a brazilian guitar player living in Portugal, and bought this guitar from Ignacio after trying all the contreras and ramirez available in Madrid at that time. Ignacio's guitar was outstanding... He had a number 1 for 400 thousand pesetas (almost 3.000USD ina 1991) and a number 2 for 275 thousand.. They played and sound just the same, with just a few diferences in the woods and ornaments. Still plays beutifully... and its a number 2 and signed!
